Türkiye earthquake death toll rises to 46,000

The death toll from the powerful earthquakes that struck 11 provinces in Türkiye on February 6 has risen to 46,000, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD). The quakes, measuring magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, have affected over 13 million people in Türkiye, as well as many in northwestern Syria.
AFAD reported more than 11,000 aftershocks have been recorded since the earthquakes. Recovery efforts continue with 6,368 search and rescue personnel, and over 234,000 personnel from AFAD, police, military, and volunteer groups working in the earthquake-hit areas.
More than 18,000 vehicles, including excavators, cranes, bulldozers, trucks, water trucks, and trailers, are being used to support the recovery efforts. Additionally, over 358,000 tents have been set up for those in need of shelter, and container cities are being established in 11 provinces and 332 locations.
