Chief of military administration on latest situation in Kharkiv - EXCLUSIVE
19 April 2022
"Our armed forces are arranging Kharkiv’s defense. A lot of infrastructures, including civilian infrastructures, have been destroyed in the city, Oleg Sinegubov, head of the military administration of the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, told Report.
He said that more than 2,000 houses, including apartment buildings, were destroyed in Kharkiv: “The death toll is approaching 600. About 40 children were killed in the war with the occupiers. Every day the city is fired at by rocket launchers and grenades. The densely populated areas of Kharkiv, such as Alekseyevka, Pyatikhatki, Saltovka, North Saltovka, Klyunichovskaya, and Ragansky, are under fire.
Oleg Sinegubov added that the historical center of Kharkiv also came under fire: “There is no military infrastructure, military base, factory, military university here. Unfortunately, there are dead and wounded as a result of the strikes. Children also die. A few days ago, 7-month-old and 7-year-old children died. The number of families with losses is much higher. We will be able to restore the city and infrastructure, but, unfortunately, it is impossible to restore the destroyed lives. We know that the occupier has already lost the battle for Kharkiv. Therefore, as they say, the world's second army is waging war against civilians. I am confident that we will cope with everything and come out as the winner of the war."
Speaking about the overall situation in the region, the head of the military administration said that the situation in the Izyumsk region remains tense: "The enemy wants to cut ties with Luhansk and Donetsk regions to beef up its military presence there. They use the Izyum route to transport their equipment. Our armed forces meet them in that area. The enemy suffers heavy losses in terms of manpower, armored vehicles, and aircraft. Every day we report on our victories in this direction."
According to him, currently, there is no need to evacuate Kharkiv residents: “We have evacuated the cities of Brovinkova and Lozovaya of the region. So far, about 40,000 people have been evacuated from these settlements. As these points are located in the direction of Izyumsk, our military forces predict the expansion of military operations in these areas as well. For this reason, we are organizing an evacuation operation to ensure the safety of civilians."
