Turkish earthquake death toll reaches 45,089








According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD), as many as 45,089 people have been killed as a result of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit southeastern Turkey on February 6, 2023. The quake caused severe destruction in the provinces of Hatay, Gaziantep, Kilis, Osmaniye, Malatya, Adiyaman, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, and Kahramanmaras. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 26 km away from Gaziantep, with a population of about 1.06 million. The tremors were also felt in Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Cyprus.
