Azerbaijan sees a 49.8% increase in foreign arrivals in Q1 2023

According to data from Azerbaijan's State Statistics Committee, in the first quarter of 2023, 368,900 foreigners and stateless persons traveled to Azerbaijan from 157 countries, marking a 49.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

Out of the total arrivals, 32.3% came from the Russian Federation, 21.5% from Türkiye, and 9.1% from Iran. The majority of arrivals were men, accounting for 76.9% of the total, while women represented 23.1%.

Compared to the first quarter of 2022, there were significant increases in the number of arrivals from India, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, China, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Israel. There were also notable increases in arrivals from Georgia, Great Britain, Oman, Kuwait, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates.

Of the total arrivals, 63.2% traveled to Azerbaijan by air, 35.3% by railway and vehicular transport, and 1.5% by sea. The number of arrivals from the CIS countries increased by 1.8 times to 151,400 people, the number of arrivals from the European Union member countries increased by 40.1% to 15,200 people, and the number of arrivals from the Gulf countries increased by 1.5% to 59,100 people.
