White House National Security Advisor Hosts Turkish Counterpart

White House National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, met with Turkish counterpart, Dr. Ibrahim Kalin, on Tuesday during his visit to Washington. The meeting covered various topics, including ongoing peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, bilateral defense cooperation, and shared concerns about Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

The White House released a statement following the meeting, in which Sullivan expressed condolences for the loss of life due to the earthquakes in Turkey and reiterated the United States’ support for the country's ongoing recovery efforts. They also discussed regional and global developments, including Turkey’s efforts to ensure the renewal of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

During the meeting, Sullivan also emphasized the United States’ view that Sweden and Finland should become members of NATO as soon as possible. Kalin also met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, where they discussed bilateral and regional cooperation, as well as Sweden and Finland’s potential NATO accession.

The meeting between Sullivan and Kalin highlights the continued collaboration and partnership between the United States and Turkey on matters of mutual concern.
