US proposes tripartite meeting with Azerbaijan and Armenia
24 February 2023
The US State Department has proposed a tripartite meeting with Azerbaijan and Armenia in an effort to resolve their ongoing conflict. State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, stated that the potential participation of both parties should be on the agenda for discussion.
"We hope to see a continuation of the progress observed in recent weeks. We are ready to support the parties for a comprehensive solution to the problem," Price said.
The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region has been ongoing for decades, with the most recent escalation leading to a six-week war in 2020. The situation has remained tense, with sporadic clashes reported along the border.
The US has been actively involved in the peace negotiations between the two countries, and this proposal for a tripartite meeting is seen as another step towards a resolution. The details of the proposed meeting are yet to be determined.
