UNAIDS Executive Director Applauds Establishment of Nizami Ganjavi International Center

Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), met with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to discuss Azerbaijan's healthcare successes and the UNAIDS' projects in Africa and other countries. Byanyima praised Azerbaijan's efforts in fighting infectious diseases and AIDS, which have helped the country make significant progress towards achieving sustainable development goals in the healthcare sector.

During the meeting, Byanyima also congratulated President Aliyev, as the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, for successfully organizing the Summit-level Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group in response to COVID-19 in Baku. She commended the Non-Aligned Movement's important role in contemporary international relations and its efforts in responding to the pandemic.

Furthermore, Byanyima expressed her appreciation for the establishment of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, which she described as a "very important initiative" that has gained global prestige. She also requested Azerbaijan's support in the UNAIDS' projects in Africa and other countries.

The meeting between Byanyima and President Aliyev highlights the importance of international cooperation and collaboration in achieving global healthcare goals and addressing global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
