The protest action of eco-activists in Karabakh against the Russian peacekeepers
12 December 2022
Early in the morning on December 12, several dozen Azerbaijani activists blocked a section of the Lachin corridor at a peacekeeping post near the city of Shusha. Traffic between Armenia and Karabakh has been interrupted, reports Azerbaijani news agencies.
The action is carried out by members of non-governmental organizations, who demand that the commander of the peacekeeping forces, General Volkov, come to them.
Activists hold banners condemning the inaction of the peacekeepers who failed to monitor the mines on December 10 by Azerbaijani environmentalists in the former Mardakert region of Karabakh. The protesters are chanting: "Shame on Volkov!"
The Russian colonel who came out to the rally participants was unable to answer the questions of Azerbaijani reporters and protesters. The protesters also said that he was drunk? Trend news agency reports.
According to the information, the activists set up tents on the Lachin road.
This is the second case of blocking the road by Azerbaijanis after December 3.
Last time, the road was released after the commander agreed with representatives of the state bodies of Azerbaijan that the peacekeepers would ensure the monitoring of the mines by representatives of Baku. The need for monitoring is due to the fact that the Armenian side illegally exploits the natural resources of Azerbaijan and ignores the laws of the country.
However, on December 10, Azerbaijani specialists were not allowed by the Armenians to two mines in the former Mardakert region.
On the same day Russian President Vladimir Putin called Ilham Aliyev to discuss the implementation of trilateral agreements between Baku, Yerevan and Moscow, the Kremlin press service said on Monday.
"They discussed some practical aspects of the implementation of the agreements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 and October 31 this year, including plans to restore economic and logistical links in the South Caucasus," the statement said.
Official Baku has not yet disclosed the phone call and its content. There is no doubt that the call is linked to today's blockage of the Lachin corridor. What the two leaders have agreed upon will be clearer depending on how the situation develops in Karabakh, Turan sumps up.
