The next Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting can still take place without Macron

A meeting of the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan is possible before the end of December this year. According to Armenian media reports, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan stated this during a briefing with journalists in parliament on December 7.
Asked whether Armenia agreed with Azerbaijan's demand regarding the absence of French President Emmanuel Macron at this meeting, Simonyan replied: “There is no information about where the meeting will take place yet, but we are ready to meet in Brussels, as we are ready for any meaningful discussion. You know that a meeting was held yesterday at the level of deputy prime ministers and an agreement was reached on the next meeting. I repeat, we do not yet have specific information about the meeting at the level of heads of state, but it is possible that it will take place before the end of the year.”
Apparently, the next meeting of Aliyev-Pashinyan can really take place in Russia. An indirect confirmation of this was today's statement by the press secretary of the President of Russia Peskov:
“Russia will be ready to provide all necessary assistance to hold a new meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on its territory”, Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS.
Speaking about the informal CIS summit, which may take place in St. Petersburg at the end of the year, he noted: "There are ideas for holding such a New Year's Eve meeting. When all the agreements are finalized, we will make an appropriate announcement".
Peskov also promised journalists to inform them if an understanding will be also reached about the meeting between Aliyev and Pashinyan.
Recall that the Aliyev-Pashinyan meeting was scheduled for December 7 in Brussels with the mediation of the head of the European Council Charles Michel. However, Pashinyan said that he would go to the meeting only if the French president also took part in it. Ilham Aliyev replied that this was a violation of the agreement and he did not intend to discuss the Karabakh problem with Macron.
