Southern Turkey rocked by deadly twin earthquakes

At least 41,020 people have been reported dead following two powerful earthquakes that struck southern Turkey on February 6, according to the country's disaster management agency. The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 quakes, which were centered in Kahramanmaras, also affected 10 other provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Hatay, Gaziantep, Malatya, Kilis, Osmaniye, Elazig, and Sanliurfa, with more than 13 million people impacted.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) said that the quakes were followed by over 6,210 aftershocks. The tremors were felt in several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon, within less than 10 hours.

Currently, a total of 19,436 local and international search and rescue personnel are working in the field, AFAD said in a statement.
