Protests on Khankandi-Lachin road enter seventh day

The protests on the Khankandi-Lachin road against the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits in Karabakh have been going on for a week, Report informs.
The demonstrations, which started in the morning on December 12, continued throughout the last night.
Despite the cold weather, the number of people joining the around-the-clock peaceful demonstrations is increasing. There is great support for the peaceful protests from all over Azerbaijan.
Eco-activists, representatives of civil society, representatives of NGOs, students, in general, all the protesters have been showing high perseverance, tenacity and determination for days.
The protesters say they will not leave until their demands are met.
The participants of the peaceful demonstrations are chanting slogans in the spirit of patriotism against the illegal exploitation of mines and environmental terrorism.
Demonstrations are being held by Azerbaijani activists and members of environmental non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on a part of the road under the control of Russian peacekeepers in Shusha, demanding an end to ecological terrorism in the Karabakh economic region.
As a result of discussions held with the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent on December 3 and 7, 2022, a team consisting of experts from the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Service for Real Estate Affairs under the Ministry of Economy and AzerGold Closed Joint Stock Company was supposed to conduct preliminary monitoring regarding the illegal exploitation of mineral deposits and the resulting ecological and other consequences in the territories of Azerbaijan, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed. However, due to the inactivity of the peacekeepers, the monitoring did not happen.
