Ministry of Health: COVID-19 causes heart disease

"Although coronavirus infection is seen as respiratory disease, one-third of COVID-related deaths are due to heart-related causes. These deaths are the result of either severe arrhythmias or heart failure. Therefore, cardiac deaths are at the forefront in intensive care units," said Health Ministry specialist, cardiologist Ilgar TahirogluReport informs.

He noted that the COVID-19 virus mainly provokes vascular occlusion. The most critical problem caused by the virus is intravascular coagulation. This condition, on the one hand, is the basis of lung obstruction, on the other hand, it seems to be a factor that leads to a heart attack.

The ministry official said that COVID-19 aggravates existing heart diseases: "COVID-19 is a viral disease that affects all organs and does not bypass the heart. People with heart failure are more prone to coronavirus. It is the most important cause of inflammation of the heart muscle. Due to this inflammation, all muscle strength weakens and leads to heart failure. A major injury also causes severe cardiac arrhythmias, in which the patient develops a ventricular arrhythmia, leading to cardiac arrest."
