The ruling Georgian Dream party, along with the People's Power public movement and the parliamentary majority, have withdrawn the controversial draft law "On Foreign Agents" from the Georgian parliament. In a joint statement, the parties cited the need to protect peace and tranquility in the country and focus on developing the country in the right direction.
"We should spend the energy of our citizens not on conflict but on peace and on developing the country in the right direction," the statement read. The draft law had drawn criticism from various groups, including civil society organizations and opposition parties, who argued that it would limit freedom of expression and stigmatize NGOs that receive funding from abroad.
