China's Xi Jinping Expresses Preparedness for War

China's leader, Xi Jinping, has emphasized the country's war readiness during the annual meeting of China's parliament and its top political advisory body in March. In four separate speeches, he urged his generals to be prepared for war and announced a 7.2% increase in China's defense budget. The country's defense budget has doubled over the last decade.

In addition, the Chinese government has recently unveiled new military readiness laws, built new air-raid shelters across the strait from Taiwan, and established new "National Defense Mobilization" offices nationwide. These measures are part of China's efforts to make the country less dependent on foreign grain imports and strengthen its military capabilities.
