The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reported an attack by Armenian armed forces on the positions of Azerbaijani armed forces on the night of March 15. The attack involved small arms fire in the direction of the village of Yukhary Ayrim of Kelbajar and Astaf of Dashkesan regions, according to the Ministry. Additionally, Azerbaijani positions in the Khojaly and Khojavend regions of Karabakh were also allegedly shelled by Armenian formations.

The Ministry of Defense stated that adequate measures were taken in response to the attacks. However, the Armenian side has denied the claims of shelling Azerbaijani positions.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions in the region and the fragile nature of the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2020 following the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement in the months following the ceasefire.
