Azerbaijan suffered a 4-1 defeat against Austria in their opening Euro 2024 Group F qualifier at the Raiffeisen Arena. Austria's Marcel Sabitzer scored twice in the first half, while Michael Gregoritsch scored a minute later to double their advantage. Sabitzer then added a third with a curling free-kick early in the second half.

Azerbaijan briefly threatened a comeback when Emin Makhmudov scored from a tight angle to pull a goal back. However, Baumgartner got the goal to restore Austria's three-goal advantage and secure the win for the hosts.
