Armenia's ratification of ICC statute strains relations with Russia, says Russian political scientist

Armenia's decision to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) will have a negative impact on relations between Moscow and Yerevan, according to a statement given by Russian political scientist Sergey Markov to Report. He believes that if Armenia were truly an ally of Russia, it would have suspended the bureaucratic procedure for entry into the ICC. Markov suggests that this decision was made on purpose, following the ICC's warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. He warns that this could be the final straw for Russian leadership, and could lead to a fundamental change in Russia's attitude towards Armenia. The Russian media is reportedly avoiding discussion of this decision by Armenia, which is seen as unfriendly towards Russia and President Putin.
