Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan Vows to Sign Peace Treaty with Azerbaijan

Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed his determination to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, but emphasized that it should not be viewed as a document of capitulation for Armenia. Pashinyan made the statement in parliament, stating that the treaty should instead be a genuine and enduring peace agreement for the region.

"I am ready to take responsibility for the sake of peace, stability, and regional and international cooperation," said Pashinyan. He also noted that there is a clear mandate for the peace agenda and that his government has been focusing on its implementation. Pashinyan appealed to the international community and the people of the region for their support.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh region has lasted for decades and flared up into a full-scale war in 2020. A ceasefire was declared in November of that year, but tensions remain high between the two nations. The signing of a peace treaty would be a significant step towards resolving the longstanding conflict.
