Armenia rejects proposal to establish checkpoints on conventional border with Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, has informed journalists that Armenia has refused to accept the proposal to establish checkpoints on the conventional border with Azerbaijan. Bayramov stated that Armenia avoids negotiations and did not provide any explanation for its decision.

Bayramov highlighted the numerous violations of law around the Lachin road over the past two years, which have caused rightful dissatisfaction in Azerbaijani society. The minister informed international organizations and representatives of the diplomatic corps operating in Azerbaijan about the illegal uses of the road and the hundreds of related facts in different directions.

As a solution to this issue, President Aliyev proposed the establishment of border crossing points on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conventional border during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia at the Munich Security Conference, and later during a panel discussion. The proposal would provide transparency as it would clearly outline the parties' obligations in accordance with the tripartite declaration. However, Armenia rejected the proposal without explanation.

Bayramov suggested that Armenia's lack of transparency creates serious problems and questions and indicates that Armenia is not interested in fulfilling its obligations related to the tripartite declaration. He also accused Armenia of manipulating information and creating unnecessary tension.
