350,000 Transport Workers Strike Across Germany

Transport workers in Germany, numbering approximately 350,000, are on strike beginning today, March 27. The action, organized by Germany's second-largest trade union Ver.di, and the railway union Eisenbahn und Verkehrsgewerkschaft (EVG), is expected to last for a day and will affect transportation services nationwide. Major airports in Hamburg, Hanover, Dortmund, Dresden, Dusseldorf, Leipzig, Munich, Nuremberg, Frankfurt/Main, Stuttgart, and Cologne-Bonn have cancelled almost all flights. Germany's autobahn operator will also participate in the strike, making this the largest strike in the country since 1992, according to Ver.di head Frank Werneke. The action is coinciding with another round of talks between the unions and German officials, scheduled to take place between March 27 and 29 in Potsdam. This strike is expected to cause significant disruption across the country, impacting businesses and individuals who rely on transportation services for the movement of goods and people.
