Turkey, Syria, Russia and Iran defense ministers to meet in Moscow

Turkish, Syrian, Russian, and Iranian defense ministers and intelligence chiefs are set to convene in Moscow on Tuesday, according to an announcement made by Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on Monday. The meeting comes as Ankara and Damascus take tentative steps towards increased engagement.

Akar emphasized that the aim of the meeting was to resolve regional issues through negotiations and ensure peace and tranquility in the area as soon as possible. He expressed hope for "positive developments" resulting from the meeting.

Akar reiterated that Turkey remains committed to its fight against terrorism, and is opposed to additional migration, instead seeking the safe and voluntary return of Syrians in Turkey.
