Armenia's decision to ratify the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has been criticized by Russian political scientist Alexei Naumov, who stated that it proves that an alliance with Armenia is unbeneficial for Russia, according to Report. Naumov argues that Yerevan's move is an attempt to punish Azerbaijan in every possible way and put pressure on it, without having any promising leverage, be it economic or military.

Naumov also criticized Armenia's recent attempts to seek support from various partners, which he sees as a result of the country's unwillingness to fulfill the obligations assumed under the tripartite agreements. He added that the issue of the ICC in Armenian-Russian relations raises questions for many Russians, who wonder why Russia's ally in the South Caucasus is not considering the informational consequences of its step.

According to Naumov, while Russia does not gain anything from its alliance with Armenia, its alliance with Baku is economically profitable and politically justified, and it is sealed by excellent bilateral relations. "This will have a cumulative effect," he concluded.
