A hybrid solar eclipse, a rare type of solar eclipse that changes its appearance as the Moon's shadow moves across the earth's surface, is set to occur on April 20, 2023, according to the Department of Astrophysics of the Faculty of Physics of Baku State University.

The eclipse will begin at 05:34:22 Baku time and will last for 5 hours and 25 minutes, with the maximum of the eclipse occurring at 08:16:49. While the total eclipse will last for 3 hours 19 minutes 40 seconds, it will only be visible in Southeast Asia, Australia, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and Antarctica. Unfortunately, it will not be observed on the territory of Azerbaijan.

This hybrid solar eclipse is an extremely rare occurrence, with only 3.1% of solar eclipses in the 21st century being of the hybrid type.

The second solar eclipse of 2023 is expected to occur on October 14.
