French Foreign Minister to visit Azerbaijan and Armenia for peace talks








French Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna is set to visit Azerbaijan and Armenia on 26-28 April to reaffirm France's commitment to negotiations for a just and lasting peace between the two countries. In a statement, the French Foreign Ministry said that the visit aims to respect territorial integrity and the principles of international law, while guaranteeing the rights of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and restoring the Lachin corridor immediately.

During her visit to Baku, the Minister will meet with President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. She will also pay tribute to the victims of Soviet repression on 20 January 1990. In Yerevan, the Minister will meet Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, as well as visit the headquarters of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Jermuk and the Armenian Genocide Memorial.

The French Foreign Minister will also visit Georgia on 28 April, where she will meet with President of the Republic Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Irakli Garibakhvili and Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili. The Minister is expected to highlight her support for the rule of law and civic space reforms needed to continue the country's rapprochement with the European Union.
