The European Union (EU) is set to introduce a ban on many goods transiting through Russia as part of a new package of sanctions aimed at tightening enforcement of measures introduced over the past year. The proposed ban would cover numerous technologies and other goods, including certain types of vehicle. However, not all items would be prevented from travelling via Russia en route to third countries. The package is intended to deal with circumvention of existing restrictions, including by companies in third countries, and to close loopholes. The proposals require the backing of all member states.
