EU to present new Russia sanctions next week
22 April 2022
The European Union will announce a new package of sanctions against Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine as soon as next week, according to a report published by Politico on Friday, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Several diplomats claimed Brussels would introduce a ban on the imports of Russian oil and include more Russian banks in the ban from the SWIFT payment system. Gazprombank and Sberbank could be hit by western measures this time, the report added.
However, the future of oil sanctions remains uncertain due to countries such as Germany and Hungary mostly relying on imports from Russia to maintain economic activities. The package will reach EU governments on Monday with the goal of getting approved by the end of next week.
