The number of tourists coming to Azerbaijan is growing. But are there few or many of them?

The State Statistics Committee stated that from January to October 2022, more than 1 million 323 thousand foreigners from 176 countries of the world came to Azerbaijan with a population of 10.5 million, which is 2.2 times more than in the same period of the previous year.
Almost 62.5% of them are citizens of neighboring countries with Azerbaijan – the Russian Federation, Turkey, Iran and Georgia. The second largest group in terms of the number of tourists (11.8%) is formed by 4 Arab states – Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Oman. There were about 20 times more visitors from Pakistan and India than last year (6.7%).
But Europeans are not in a hurry to come to Azerbaijan – the largest country in Transcaucasia in terms of territory, population and economic power. The number of travelers from any European country, with the exception of Ukraine and Belarus, did not exceed even one percent of the total number of visitors. Although there is an upward trend. For example, there were 3.2 times more Americans, 2.7 times more Germans, 2.4 times more French, and 1.9 times more Britons than in 2021.
For comparison, let's say that according to official data, 4.4 million international travelers visited Georgia in ten months of 2022. This is significantly more than the entire population of the country. Of the total number of visits, more than three million were tourist, which is 137.9% more compared to the same period last year.
